For the umpteenth time, I now believe Insecticide is properly bloody finished.
I have taken various bits of advice into account and altered chunks of the book, altered other chunks that altered because of the first alterations and altered the other chunks that required alteration because of the alterations that resulted from the original alterations.
Phew.
Now I can upload it to Authonomy and see if anyone votes for it. I've also sent it to another friend who has a completely inappropriate agent (he also represents Alan Bennett; I think my oeuvre may fall on stony ground as far as he is concerned) to see what he thinks. Otherwise, it's back to Writers and Artists and sending it off to agents who didn't have the good fortune of receiving it last month (or was it the month before?).
And now I can get on with the next project, a prospect that I find rather exciting.
Hi..... just caught up with your blog..... glad you're all done and going to have a crack at Authonomy. You should do well.
A note of caution however, Authonomy is unmoderated, and a lot of weird stuff goes on. "Conspiracies", outside "attacks", the site is a novel in itself!! A highly improbable melodrama which sometimes you cannot believe is happening, but it's right there in front of you so it must be real...
Very weird.
To shift up the rankings, you do need to do some work, the best way to get your book read is to participate fully (bearing in mind that that in itself is tantamount to taking your first tightrope walk over a tank full of man eating crocodiles!!) by reading and commenting on others' work and participating in the forums.
If I had come across Authonomy and checked it out a bit more fully before uploading, I am not entirely sure I would have uploaded. Now I am there, I am going to try to make the most of it.... but... and it's quite a big but!
